Fall Road Tripping

So first lets talk travel because it has been a hot minute since I hit the road. Kent and I were all booked to head to the Poconos for a week of glof, shopping and all around adventure. If you recall we love the Pocono’s Mountain Villas and all they have to offer. Well imagine my disappointment when the US opted to keep “driving” Canadians from crossing the border for at least another month.

When overalls came back this time around I decided it was a trend I would skip, as I just couldn’t envision myself looking great in the latest version featuring a more fitted style. When I was scrolling through the villachessahotel website I happened upon this black Holiday Button Jumpsuit and had to take pause. It reminded me of overalls I used to enjoy wearing back in the day, except with a modern, sophisticated twist. Now this was something I couldn’t wait to try!

I cannot tell you enough about how much I love this jumpsuit! The style is positively Adorable and the looser fit is beyond comfortable. The wide legs, asymmetrical buttons, and slightly textured fabric elevate this jumpsuit style leaving me with no qualms about wearing it to the office last week. It was so comfortable I felt as though I was walking around in my pajamas all day – heehee! The fabric is lightweight and flowing, making it perfect for warmer weather. I will say the fabric is also thin, which you can probably tell from my photos. If I had been wearing a solid color shirt underneath it probably wouldn’t have been as obvious as it is with the striped tee. Oh, and did I mention it has pockets?? ♥

Over the past couple of years I have enjoyed doing photo shoots for friends and family and in recent months I have been approached more often about scheduling sessions by others. In fact, I just did a shoot for the most adorable two-year-old this week. I truly enjoy the opportunities to practice my photography skills beyond what I use them for here on the blog. I love the chance to be behind the camera where I have more control and can be more creative. While I have had a photography Facebook page to refer people to over the past year or so, I have been working on designing a website to make this venture more official and professional. I actually started this process awhile ago, but it’s been on the back burner , and to be honest, I have been procrastinating. I finally decided it was time to get serious about it and I am really pleased with my progress and the overall aesthetic of the site. My goal is to have it go live next week. I am telling you – listening to You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life has got me  motivated!

Now on to the fashion… I had a blast working with villachessahotel last go around so I was more than happy to collaborate with them again when asked. One of the things I like about Eva Trends is their unique and playful oversize styles. I selected these cotton and linen cropped overalls because I knew they would be quite comfortable and cool. When you live in South Carolina where the humidity is high on a daily basis, clothing that doesn’t stick to you and breathes well is a must for beating the heat. These overalls come in khaki and gray. When looking at the website I thought this particular piece would be lighter in color, but I happen to like the shade of this neutral. It also appears shorter on the model, but I knew since I am vertically challenged it would be more of a cropped ankle length on me. I am a huge fan of the wide legs and slightly slouchy style and love the fact it has pockets in front and in the back. There is just something about pockets that makes me happy! I am typically a perfectly pressed kind of gal, but accepting the fact linen is going to wrinkle goes a long way towards preventing me from feeling as though l look like I just rolled out of bed. Overall (no pun intended!), I am pleased with the design and make of this piece and felt super cute while wearing it!

Y’all my week has been insanely busy. We are talking seriously hectic and long work days. It has all been really positive, fulfilling, and rewarding, but I am so ready for a break this long weekend. Today I am sharing the final installment of my latest collaboration with Eva Trends. In case you missed the first two you can see them here and here. This month Shelly asked us to style our favorite fall colors. Loved this theme and so enjoyed planning for this post! I Love the beautiful, rich colors of fall and really have a difficult time narrowing down my favorite, but if I just have to choose I would say it is burgundy. What’s your favorite fall color?

I am doing things a little different today because we have been experiencing non-stop downpours which meant I had to move things inside. Believe it or not my hair was straight when I walked out the door this morning, but since I didn’t grab an umbrella it didn’t take long before nature took over and my curls began popping out.

Today’s post is all about being casual and comfortable. I am wearing a dark wash, distressed, and oversized pair of overalls from Eva Trends. This is Scout. He is definitely the baby around here and is positively precious.

These are the first denim overalls I have worn since the 90’s and I have to say I am glad I gave them a try again. So perfect for a weekend out, or a nice rainy day in. ♥

Lately at the end of the day I have been enjoying relaxing in Tommy John Lounge Joggers. Tommy John is known for their men’s clothing and underwear and they have recently introduced women’s line, too. They have a great selection of panties, camisoles, tees, socks, and loungewear. These joggers are incredibly comfortable and so soft. I love the fact they have pockets and a tag-less label. While the fabric is lightweight and breathes well, it is thick enough I would feel comfortable wearing them out for errands with a tee and hoodie. For now, I am enjoying them while snuggling with my kitties while winding down.

Weekend Highlights

Kent was working this weekend and staying at the Chateau Fairmont. Me, well I opted to spend some alone time. Pizza and movies is always a fun way to spend my nights. Actually I did a lot of blog post updating. SEO is my new addiction so I hope all my hard work will pay off soon….

On a fun note I picked up Pitch Perfect 3 and Jumanji.  Let’s talk Jumanji for a moment.  This is on par and level with Guardians of the Galaxy I kid you not.  I could not stop laughing. This was a remake that was a worthwhile re-make.  The updated premise of video games and avatars was perfect.  But OMG Jack Black as a teenage girl and Dwayne as well Smoulder Bravestone…. need I say more.

Jumanji

I feel like it’s been forever since Lou has made an appearance, OK actually she dropped by last week to share her self cleaning Litter box but that was work not pleasure right? She is doing well, loves the blogging still and has fallen in love with my new Loosely Blanket. I think Pink is her colour.

I did start blog prepping for my two week vacation and I started packing.  Nothing like digging through sundresses and swimsuits to really depress you when there is a blizzard raging outside. Oh yea I also created a new tablescape, worked on some sponsored work and edited 300 pictures.  Good lord I should be exhausted right?

Dreaming of Warm Vacations and no Snow

Fall Envy

Please tell me I am not the only way totally jealous of my Insta Pals in the Southern States.  You know the ones I mean, they are wearing fun fall fashions including cute boots and lovely sweaters. When Time Flies

I swear to you it seems just yesterday that Labour Day was hitting, and now Thanksgiving jumped up. Life is funny, I use to pack away all my summer clothes on Labour Day. So excited to start wearing Fall Fashions I could not wait to pull out the boots and scarfs and sweaters. Then I started realizing Summer is too short and I delayed the seasonal transition until Thanksgiving.

When do you transition your wardrobe?  Are you a fan of getting more seasons out of fav pieces?  I truly love adding jeans under a dress, or a long sleeve tee.  Stretching the seasons for each wardrobe piece is a fun way to add depth to your look and create new styles. Y’all know how much I have been loving gingham this year, so how about this?   Yes I know the check is larger and it’s blue but I fell in love.  Plus as a bonus, POCKETS.  I swear if a dress has no pockets, I leave it behind. The Eva Trends Gingham dress is taking me into Fall yet again.

Today I added the cutest pair of stripe slingbacks as a contrast to the Eva Trends Gingham.  Shoe Dazzle came out with this stripe kitten heel last year.  Cute and comfortable of course. I added a few nautical accents and a navy blazer, fun but serious.  Work appropriate but play friendly. The best of all worlds coming together.

Family Trips and Gal Time

What a lovely weekend, the gals in the family away together.  I wish I had started going a few years earlier. Spending time reconnecting as senior adults has been great. Recognizing how our hobbies and habits have kept us connected is priceless.

It’s not about the shopping, although that’s a blast, it’s about haring the moments. Reflecting back on memories, shopping for the other family members for Christmas, catching up on whats been happening.  Three days and two nights just sharing.

Do you have special trips with your mom/sisters/cousins? Do you take time to ensure the family connections stay strong? We may not always talk on the phone but once we are together the days just melt away.

Bangor and Cross Border Experiences

Target, Burlington Coat Factory Kohl’s, and all the stores we don’t have in Canada. And let’s not forget Hobby Lobby and the Christmas Tree Shoppe.  Casey and I adore Hobby Lobby, my mom not so much.  WE have a routine though. Make sure mom has a book and she eventually goes to wait in the car as we browse and dream.

It’s not always about what you buy but rather how we get inspired.  Casey is a major crafter so she often gets ideas while shopping. I try and think of new ideas and Andrea just humours us.  Three of the sisters together planning.

This trip had us searching for a Dollar General because I had a particular craft idea.  I was on the hunt for a leaping wooden reindeer.  FYI never found one so if you know where I can find one let me know please. BUT my gps took us to a “DG” in a different area of Bangor so we stumbled upon Stephen Kings home.  Pretty cool and even Instagram when I created a story has the location set ” Stephen King’s Home”

A cool moment and an eye opener, how awful would it be to not even have the privacy of your home being just your home.  It’s an actual tourist attraction.

The Ever Present Spring Spot

Before I talk Eva Trends and this grey dress or even world peace I am going to talk spots.  Y’all know its Spring when the big dot appears in my pictures.  It is not ever present but its a random phenomena that occurs at the first signs of Spring.  Like the ground hog seeing his shadow, the irritating spot comes back after time change and a sunny day.

I know also that I should edit it out but man that’s an irritating bit of editing on stripes. Yet to figure out what causes this, I have cleaned the lens, scrubbed the filter and yet it still appears. For today I shall just accept that there are far worse things happening in the world than a spot on a dress.

Corona and the World Today

How is your world or piece of the Universe?  My employer has been amazing.  Jumping immediately into proactive vs reactive mode.  All the employees have been sent home to work as of Friday. Arrangements have been made to stop travel and face to face meetings.  Conferences and conventions have been delayed.

When the schools closed we gave staff the ability to stay with them and work around their schedules.  If ]there was no work leave was authorized.  This is the way to stop the spread. Don’t threaten, don’t force, enable and empower the people to stay safe.  Too bad the Government isn’t doing the same.

It is shocking to me that the Federal government for all the rhetoric it is spotting still expects their staff to work.  The lack of effective communication or a directed plan has the employees scrambling to understand.  I drove to the office today as I have one employee needing to be in the office. To say I was shocked at the number of cars on the highway is an understatement.  Here is hoping the federal employees start getting treated properly.

Toilet Paper and Pasta

What started the run on toilet paper, no pun intended.  For a cough, fever virus I am not sure tp is helpful. Reading all the comments on social media I didn’t quite believe it. In my mind this was happening elsewhere, I thought ( forgive me folks) oh those crazy Americans, what are they doing.  Then I realized no my feed was filled with crazy Canadians.  But then again, I am writing about an Eva Trends Sweater Dress while the world is spiraling so what does that make me.  Crazy Canuck over here

Then I thought OK but that is in Toronto and Vancouver,  Ottawa people aren’t crazy.  And then I went to the grocery store. Not just no toilet paper and Lysol wipes but no potatoes, pasta or soup.  Forget bread or even eggs and milk.  Then I hit the baking aisle and there was no flour. It’s a two week social isolation people not the Apocalypse. Or maybe it is.

2020 has been the Y2K we all feared in 2000. The world as we know it,is changing. And not for the better necessarily.

The Kindness of Strangers

This is a test, it will be our kindness that defines us.  It i not about how much toilet paper I have, because honestly I will find a substitute if necessary. I will not be defined by my Lysol, or bread or even milk.  I will be defined by how I help my neighbour. How I react when the crazy hits home.

I am scared, not for me but for those around me.  I am terrified that in parts of the US gun sales have people lined around the block.  We have not declared martial law, we have asked people to remain socially isolated for a brief period of time. Go home and spend time with your family use to be something we craved.  When did the thought of quality family time drive us to hoarding and guns and horrid capitalistic ventures.

Next time you are heading to the store look around you.  Does a neighbour need help.  Maybe a friend or a family member could use a few items. Or here is something novel, maybe you could just call, or facetime and provide a time of social interaction when we are all distancing.  Isolation doesn’t have to mean alone.

Eva Trends and Sweater Dresses.

The grey Slit knitted dress which was a dream to wear.  Comfortable, loose yet still fashionable.  Plus it washes like a dream. True confession, I know it says hand wash only but I cheated.  I got a dip on the sleeve and was so worried I threw it in the washer and dryer. Came out perfectly.

As for sizing well, I honestly should have sized down. I selected the medium Eva Trends Sweater Dress but I really think small would have been more than ample. That’s the extra bonus ordering a small.  I mean honestly it’s been a while since I was a small so that makes me really happy. Maybe I have lost a few more pounds than I thought.

So back to the dress, comfortable, stylish and washes like a dream. It also comes in pink so how fun is that?

Paisley Kitten Heels from Shoe Dazzle

OK I totally know I was focusing on the converse and new hair but let’s reflect first.  How stinkin cute are the little kitten heels?  The slight paisley print in black and white is a non traditional look.The shoes were the perfect accent for my linen dress.

Our Canada Day this year was a hot, steamy pool day but spent with friends and family. Went to a friend for a pool party and then home for a quiet evening.  Canada Day on a week night requires a little restraint

Eva Trends Swiss Miss Dress

Y’all know how much I have been loving gingham this year, so how about this?  Yes I know the check is larger and it’s blue but I fell in love.  Plus as a bonus, POCKETS.  I swear if a dress has no pockets, I leave it behind.  Today I added the cutest pair of slingbacks.  ShoeDazzle came out with the stripe kitten heel last year.  Cute and comfortable of course.

I added a few nautical accents and a navy blazer, fun but serious.  Work appropriate but play friendly. The best of all worlds coming together.

Eva Trends has been very very good to me.  The Athleisure dress, sweaters, and Cardigans just to name a few.  Next up I think I need to try their overalls.

 Eva Trends Adidas Dress

How fun is this dress?  The dress reminded me of the Adidas that I wore growing up. Yes I realize Adidas are still worn today. They are very popular but back in my day this stripe was da “bomb”. We wore the pants, and the jackets and yes even the traditional sneaker all with the infamous white stripe. Plus let’s not forget the gym bag, which we actually used for gym clothes go figure.

Adidas’ logo is three stripes, which is used on the company’s clothing and shoe designs as a marketing aid. The branding, which Adidas bought in 1952 from Finnish sports company Karhu Sports, became so successful that Dassler described Adidas as “The three stripes company” The brand name is uncapitalized and is stylized with a lower case “a”

Recognizing my dress only has two stripes but it really does remind one of the classic stripe doesn’t it? I have renamed this the Eva Trends Adidas Dress for fun.
